Key Takeaways:

  • The funding round was led by Battery Ventures and brings the company’s total funding to $81 million.
  • GenLogs says its nationwide sensor network helps shippers, insurers and agencies verify carrier activity and reduce an estimated $35 billion in annual cargo theft.

GenLogs, a startup using roadside sensors and artificial intelligence to combat cargo theft and fraud in the trucking industry, secured $60 million in Series B funding, the company said Feb. 2.

The round was led by Battery Ventures with participation from IVP, Cathay Innovation, 9Yards and several existing backers, bringing the company’s total funding to $81 million. GenLogs, based in Arlington, Va., said it will use the new capital to expand its data platform, which is designed to verify carrier activity, assess risk and provide real-time visibility across freight networks.

Founded in 2023, GenLogs builds its system on a nationwide network of roadside and port-based sensors, satellites and other data sources that capture truck movements and compare them with a carrier’s digital footprint. The company said the approach helps shippers, insurers and government agencies confirm a carrier’s identity, equipment and operating patterns while reducing exposure to fraud and cargo theft, which it estimates at $35 billion annually.

CEO and co-founder Ryan Joyce, a former CIA officer, said the trucking sector remains “highly fragmented in its composition and still analog in its operations,” creating openings for bad actors. “GenLogs is applying many aspects of the U.S. intelligence community’s playbook to drive total visibility in the trucking industry,” he said in the announcement.

GenLogs said its privacy system filters noncommercial vehicles and obscures windows in images to prevent personal identification. The company also has assisted federal and state agencies on investigations, including cases involving human trafficking and narcotics smuggling. Battery Ventures general partner Marcus Ryu will join GenLogs’ board as part of the investment.
