In France, drivers must use winter tyres in certain circumstances, but the rules governing that are facing accusations of being toothless after it emerged that motorists face no financial penalty if they do not fit the right tyres. The Loi Montagne rule was implemented in 2021, but a decree authorising fines to be given is yet to be passed.
