As Flemish Prime Minister Matthias Diependaele confirmed yesterday in the Flemish Parliament, Flanders wants to increase the income from the kilometer charge for trucks by 180 million euros per year. This point is in the text of the Flemish Coalition Agreement, but was not yet quantified.
The amount is more than considerable, since the kilometer tax has yielded 658 million euros in 2024. The income should therefore rise by 27 % on an annual basis. According to our information, Flanders does not intend to add new roads to its taxable network. The entire 180 million will therefore come from an additional levy on heavy diesel vehicles, in accordance with European legislation. In this respect, Flanders follows the example of Germany that the rates of the LKW-Maut has greatly increased in 2024.
