EV Belgium reasonably satisfied about 2025

Must read

EV Belgium, the federation for emission-free mobility, is reasonably satisfied with the rollout of charging infrastructure in Belgium, but less so about the sales figures of electric vehicles. This is especially true for vans and trucks.

The number of electric vans exceeded 10,000 in 2025 and the number of electric trucks exceeded 500. However, these (small) symbolic milestones cannot conceal the fact that EV Belgium, the vast majority of members of which install or operate charging stations, has some concerns. The question arises about the profitability threshold for charging park operators, who have made great efforts to densify the network by 2025: the number of public and semi-public charging stations has increased by 23% nationally, with a particularly notable increase in Wallonia, where the number of fast chargers has increased by as much as 93% in one year.

In terms of DC charging infrastructure for trucks, significant progress has been made with 43 stations accessible to trucks. According to EV Belgium, Belgium is a good student here in Europe. However, these investments must quickly become profitable and the number of light and heavy electric commercial vehicles remains insufficient to achieve this goal. EV Belgium therefore calls on policymakers to implement a stable policy framework and support for sectors that use light and heavy commercial vehicles. “Without this, Belgium will not be able to translate its leading position in charging infrastructure to the vehicle fleet. We must continue to follow a clear path to emission-free mobility,” the federation said.
