Europe’s first fully automated parking garage for vehicles is coming to Zeebrugge

Must read

Construction of Europe’s first fully automated multi-storage parking garage for vehicles will soon start in the port of Zeebrugge. The project is a collaboration between ICO (International Car Operators), stow Group and Ceratec, and represents an important step towards innovative and sustainable vehicle logistics. Completion of the garage is expected in the second half of 2027.

The new garage, which will be built on a site of 5 hectares, can accommodate around 10,000 vehicles. Thanks to this expansion, ICO increases its annual processing capacity from 2.5 to 3 million vehicles. The system is fully automated with ten cranes that move the vehicles within an innovative rack system.

stow Group supplies the steel structure and the rack system, while Ceratec is responsible for the automation, including via VIN recognition. The integration with ICO’s Terminal Operating System ensures seamless and real-time monitoring of all processes.

According to Alain Guillemyn, Managing Director of ICO, this project not only strengthens the technological strength of the terminal, but also Zeebrugge’s position as a logistics hub for vehicles in Europe. The new garage also ensures fewer vehicle movements and more efficient use of the available space, which contributes to lower emissions and a more sustainable port environment.
