Energy transition Truckmarkt switches acceleration higher

The figures remain modest, but the market share of electric trucks is increasing in Belgium. We analyzed the reasons for this increasing electrification with Filip van Thielen, e-ambassador at Daimler Truck Belgium.

In the first half of 2025, almost as many electric trucks were registered in Belgium as in the whole of 2024. Although the figures remain modest: 74 trucks of more than 16 tons (compared to 79 for the whole of 2024) and 163 vehicles of more than 3.5 tons (compared to 131 for the whole of 2024). Nevertheless, the market share of electric vehicles rises to 3.25 %, while in 2024 that was only 1.41 %. There is clearly something going on on the market: when handing over the keys to the first four Mercedes Eactros 600 to Serge Gregoir (Eutraco), Peter Brock, general manager of Daimler Truck Belgium, indicated that he already had 200 fixed orders for his new electric model. If you compare those figures with the 3000 orders that are already placed at the factory, these figures are no longer anecdotal.

According to Filip Van Thielen, an acceleration of the market has clearly been shown in recent weeks: “Of course there is still a distinction between what is happening in Flanders and what happens in Wallonia. In Flanders, each dealer has at least one or two advanced contacts per week and we already see that customers who had ordered one or two vehicles are not so that in Wallon. Not from purchasing premiums or a reduction in the kilometer charge.

According to Filip van Thielen, it is indeed the attitude of the clients who are changing: “In the beginning, the shippers did not seem very interested in the possibility of transporting emission -free.
