BTB-ABVV has presented its eleventh Zwartboek about the Belgian motorway parking. The conclusion remains unchanged: drivers still have a lack of safety, comfort and capacity. The organization calls on policy makers, employers and clients to finally take responsibility.
In the past two years, BTB-ABVV has visited more than 50 car parks at home and abroad. Conclusion: barely one in five drivers always feel safe there. The most common complaints are also a lack of basic facilities and too few parking spaces.
Master plan
BTB-ABVV argues for a federal master plan for truck car parks and for certification according to the European SSPA standards. Each parking must at least have basic facilities, real -time information and social control. The trade union also requires hotel facilities so that drivers can comply with European rest times.
“This new Zwartboek is a cry for help and a guideline for those who want to build a human parking policy,” says Tom Peeters, deputy federal secretary BTB road transport and logistics.
According to BTB chairman Frank Moreels, it is unacceptable that the yields of the kilometer charge are not used for better infrastructure. “The sector pays millions annually. That money must serve for what it is intended: safe and comfortable facilities for drivers.”
