Just before the fall of the Dutch government, Minister Barry Madlener (Infrastructure and Water Management) confirmed that the kilometer charge will be introduced in the Netherlands on 1 July 2026. The rates for the levy are also definitively fixed.
As a reminder: the Dutch kilometer charge applies to all motorways, on certain national roads and on some local roads in and around large cities. It applies to all vehicles with a maximum permitted weight of more than 3.5 tons. A contract must be concluded with one of the operators recognized by the RDW. The list of operators will be announced later this year, but the principle will be the same as in Belgium, namely that every truck must be equipped with an interoperable OBU. Most OBUs with which trucks registered in Belgium are equipped (with the exception of Satellic, which is not designed with a view to interoperability) will probably also be used in the Netherlands.
All information about the Dutch kilometer charge is available on the website www.vrachtwagenhling.nl.
