The national average diesel price ticked down a half-cent to $3.80 a gallon, its second decline after three consecutive increases, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data released Aug. 5.
Despite the downturns, diesel’s price has dipped just 1.2 cents in the past two weeks. A gallon of trucking’s main fuel now costs 4.5 cents more than it did at this time a year ago.

Regional Trends
Three of the Five PADDs showed increases of less than a penny a gallon. The Gulf Coast showed a 1.2-cent decline, while the Rocky Mountain region increased by the same amount.
The East Coast New England subregion’s 1.8-cent rise was the largest price gain of the week. The Lower Atlantic’s 1.3 cent drop was the biggest decrease.

Gasoline Update
The national average price for a gallon of gasoline went up 1.7 cents to $3.14 a gallon. That’s 30.8 cents less than at at this time in 2024.
