The criminal court of Tongeren has sentenced a 66-year-old man to four years in prison and a fine of 100,000 euros for fraud with red diesel. The four companies accused in this case (including Dalga-Trans, which is currently in bankruptcy) were sentenced to a fine of 13.95 million euros.
It is already the second conviction for the former boss of Dalga-Trans, who was already found guilty of similar offenses in 2021. As the VRT reports, the customs and excise services had received an anonymous letter that led them to the trail of a laboratory where fuel oil was decolorized on a large scale. In addition to two transport companies (one in Genk and one in Slovakia), this counterfeit diesel was also delivered to a gas station in Genk. In total, approximately 7 million liters of fraudulent diesel were allegedly put on the market, bringing the amount of fraud to 3.8 million euros.
