Daimler Truck gives Eactros 400 a boost

Must read

Four years after his launch, the Mercedes-Benz Eactros 400 receives a thorough technological upgrade, using the technology of the Eactros 600. The Eactros 300 model, on the other hand, disappears from the range.

The most important change is the switch from NMC chemistry (Nikkel-Mangaan-Kobalt) to LFP chemistry (Lithium-iron phosphate) for the batteries. Daimler Truck justifies this change with a longer lifespan, a useful capacity of more than 95 % and the switch to an 800 -volt onboard system. The battery packages are the same as for the Eactros 600. This has three, while the Eactros 400 has two, for a total nominal capacity of 414 kWh. The charging capacities are the same for both models: up to 400 kW via the standard CCS2 charging connection. However, charging with 1 megawatt remains reserved for the 600.

This development is accompanied by a complete revision of the offer. Both models are available in a tractor or truck version. The Eactros 400 is available as a 4 × 2 tractor with a short wheelbase of 3700 mm, as a 4 × 2 truck with wheel bases of 4000, 5500, 5800 and 6100 mm or as a 6 × 2 truck with six different wheelbases between 4000 and 5800 mm. The range of the Eactros 600 is also expanded by 4 × 2 trucks with a wheelbase of 4000, 5500 and 5800 mm and 6 × 2 trucks with six wheelbases between 4000 and 5800 mm.

Both models are available with the Lowliner cabin (Classic or StreamSpace, 230 cm wide) or with the 250 cm wide procabin cabin. As a result, the empty weight of an Eactros 600 in particular can be reduced. With its two battery packages, the Eactros 400 retains a load capacity of more than 25 tons. That is three tons more than the Eactros 600.
