Corneel Geerts officially starts using a CO2-neutral facility in Venlo

Must read

Corneel Geerts Transportgroup has officially opened its brand new branch in Venlo. The building covers 6,000 m² of warehouse space and is CO₂ neutral thanks to solar panels, underfloor heating and advanced climate control that keeps energy consumption to a minimum. However, charging any electric trucks is not yet possible due to a lack of available capacity.

“Venlo has been a key region for our international activities for years,” says Kenneth Geerts, Sales Manager at Corneel Geerts. “With this new branch we are strengthening our operational strength and our sustainable ambitions. This building is not just an expansion – it is a statement of where we want to go: progress with respect for people, customers and the environment.”

Charging infrastructure is provided to respond to the further electrification of the vehicle fleet. “The charging stations are currently only provided for cars. The expansion for trucks is also certainly on the radar. There are options on the site to do this in the future. However, a high-voltage cabin is required for this, but in Venlo there is certainly undercapacity of electricity at the moment. There is a lot of industry present and the area is divided into two large groups. The buildings have been in use for a long time but have not been renovated. These therefore use a lot of grid power. For this the grid power manager in Venlo is trying to optimize plans to use power more efficiently and better. The second group are the newer buildings, just like ours, these are the buildings that are greener. Our building is CO₂ neutral and therefore requires almost no supply from the grid,” says Kenneth Geerts.
