In 2026, Continental has achieved an important milestone in its global sustainability strategy. The tyre maker reports that as of January, it no longer uses coal and heavy fuel oil at any of its production sites worldwide. In place of these CO2 emission-intensive fuels, Continental has adopted alternative energy sources to generate the steam required for manufacturing tyres and heating, including biomass, biogas, electricity from renewable sources, and alternative fuels such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and natural gas.
