From April 10 to 16, the E313 in Deurne will be completely closed for the replacement of two bridges. This intervention will have a significant impact on freight traffic to and from the port of Antwerp. To guarantee accessibility, various partners are committed to an alternative via inland shipping.
Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Lantis and De Vlaamse Waterweg nv join forces and, with support from the Less Nuisance Fund, provide an additional measure for shippers and transporters. Inland shipping terminals along the Albert Canal are developing a temporary offer for companies that want to switch to the Cargo Park & Ride principle.
The concept is simple: goods are delivered to an inland terminal and then transported by barge to the port, or vice versa. This way, trucks avoid the heaviest traffic disruptions. At the same time, the system offers companies the opportunity to become acquainted with inland shipping as an alternative.
