After Brussels, Amazon will now also deliver emission-free in Antwerp with a fleet of electric cargo bikes. These cargo bikes, which are stationed at the Amazon distribution center in Blue Gate, will replace delivery trucks.
The fleet of cargo bikes will be managed by local Amazon transport partners. “This mode of transport not only ensures more efficient deliveries in densely populated urban areas, but also helps reduce traffic congestion and parking problems. By utilizing Antwerp’s unique cycling network, we are working to reduce urban traffic through innovative delivery methods, while remaining fully committed to the safety of our delivery people. For example, we ensure that all delivery people receive full training and have the appropriate safety equipment, such as helmets, and we ask our partners to follow strict safety protocols,” says Eva Faict, general manager of Amazon for Belgium and the Netherlands.
The delivery of larger packages continues to be done with electric vans.
