Almost 40 per cent of vehicles on UK roads are running on tyres that are unsafe, according to the NTDA’s TyreCheck 2025 survey, purportedly the largest ever tyre safety survey. The TyreCheck 2025 examined more than 58,000 vehicles across 141 locations. It found 8 per cent were fitted with tyres below the legal minimum tread depth of 1.6mm, while a further 32 per cent were on tyres that were technically legal but offered significantly reduced grip and braking performance.
