Must read

Orion S.A. received 10 safety awards from the International Carbon Black Association (ICBA) for its 2024 performance. The ICBA annually recognizes companies that maintain superior safety records across their manufacturing sites. The association praised carbon black safety practices by Orion, stating the company ‘set the benchmark’ for the industry in employee health and safety. The awards fall under the ICBA’s Safety Recognition Program, a voluntary initiative based on verified data from the prior year.

Orion Gold Awards Highlight Global Commitment to Carbon Black Safety

Eight Orion plants earned Gold Awards. The honored sites include:

  • Belpre, Ohio;
  • Berre-l’Étang, France;
  • Huaibei, China;
  • Ivanhoe, Louisiana;
  • Jaslo, Poland;
  • Paulinia, Brazil;
  • Ravenna, Italy; and
  • Yeosu, South Korea.

To qualify for Gold status, facilities must achieve globally recognized safety certifications. They must also report no regulatory citations tied to safety-related incidents, audits, or activities, ICBA said.

“Safety is our highest priority at our sites and throughout our company,” Orion CEO Corning Painter said. “We continue to focus our capital investments more on maintenance and reliability across our global operations. We expect to build on our success with safety.”

Bronze Awards Recognize Zero Lost Work Days

Two additional Orion sites, Orange, Texas, and Qingdao, China, earned Bronze Awards. These plants reported zero “Lost Work Day” cases, which are nonfatal injuries or illnesses that cause an employee to miss work.

“The ICBA’s recognition reflects our employees’ unwavering commitment and belief that achieving a consistently injury-free workplace is both attainable and a core value of our company,” said Carlos Quinones, senior vice president of Global Operations at Orion.
