The increasingly online tyre business
The UK online tyre business has grown significantly in recent years. Sites/businesses like the Michelin-owned Blackcircles, the Halfords-owned Tyre Shopper as well as the Colewood Automotive-owned operations (amongst others) dominate the market, offering a wide range of tyres from budget to premium brands, often at lower prices than traditional brick-and-mortar retailers. These platforms allow customers to browse and purchase tyres online, with options for home delivery or fitting at partnered garages across the UK. And, as a result, some sources suggest that online sales now account for around 25 per cent of the tyre replacement market. However, challenges such as the integration with physical retail locations persist, while sustainability concerns are pushing some companies to promote eco-friendly tyre options and recycling initiatives too.

All-season & winter tyres
The all-season tyre market is one of two jewel segments in the Western European (and even wider) tyre market. The growth in these year-round products has been driven by several factors – strong synergy with another major growth segment in SUV tyres, a new wave of high-quality products from premium brands, and the subsequent move by sub-premium brands to produce lower-cost alternatives. The temperate island climate of the UK makes all-season tyres an excellent fit for most consumers, lacking the most extreme hot and cold temperatures under normal circumstances throughout the year. The wider operating window for getting the best out of the most recent all-season tyres has made it very attractive to ensure mobility throughout the winter without the added expense and hassle of seasonal tyre changes and maintaining minimal performance compromises. Compliance with seasonal regulations in European markets has become less of a worry, since current-gen all-season tyres also carry the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certification. While all this has meant further contraction for the already minimal winter tyre market in the UK, those demanding uncompromising safety and performance in the cold – as well as those around the world in more northern climates – can benefit from the impressive specialist winter tyres now available, as manufacturers focus more purely on higher performance on snow and ice.
