DAT Freight & Analytics has agreed to acquire the Convoy Platform from Flexport, saying the deal will add automation and digital freight-matching technology to its product portfolio.
The move marks the latest new home for the digital freight matching (DFM) platform, which was originally developed by Convoy, a Seattle-based freight tech startup that shut its doors in 2023 after eight years of operations and hundreds of millions of dollars in venture capital backing. After Convoy floundered, San Francisco-based Flexport bought its technology stack, and later invested funds and development resources to expand it.
The acquisition is the latest purchase by Beaverton, Oregon-based DAT, which operates what it calls the largest truckload freight marketplace and truckload freight data analytics service in North America. In 2024, DAT bought Trucker Tools, a provider of load tracking and carrier sourcing services.
According to DAT, the Convoy Platform provides freight brokers with a powerful way to automate virtually every aspect of the freight transaction and connect with trusted trucking companies. That capability complements DAT One, DAT’s flagship subscription-based load board, where nearly 700,000 loads are posted daily.
Over the long term, DAT said it will ultimately integrate the Convoy Platform into DAT One, allowing brokers to access both automated and hands-on freight-matching options, and giving carriers a faster, easier way to find quality loads from trusted brokers, the firm said.
“The acquisition of the Convoy Platform demonstrates DAT’s ongoing commitment to enhancing network value for our customers,” Jeff Clementz, DAT President and CEO, said in a release. “Together, we will give customers a better, broader freight-matching network, the ability to manage more loads and capture incrementally more business, and ultimately more choice.”
