Tata Motors takes over Iveco Group

Must read

Tata Motors, part of the Indian Tata Conglomate, has announced that it will take over the European Iveco Group for an amount of around 3.8 billion euros.
The acquisition only concerns the commercial activities of Iveco, including trucks, Daily vans and buses. The defense branch of Iveco (IDV and Astra) is not part of the acquisition. Iveco has been in existence for exactly 50 years this year.

The acquisition, subject to approval by shareholders and competition authorities, is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026. Iveco’s head office in Turin remains active and the European production infrastructure is also retained.

Industrial giant

This strategic move creates an industrial giant with a combined annual turnover of around 22 billion euros and a volume of more than 540,000 vehicles. The new group will operate from two home markets- Europe (50% of sales) and India (35%)- with further growth ambitions in North and South America, Asia and Africa.

With this acquisition, Tata Motors wants to considerably strengthen its worldwide position in the segment of commercial vehicles. The company already has brands such as Daewoo (South Korea) under its wings and produces trucks in several continents. The brand names of Iveco, just like the existing production locations, are retained. Tata underlines that it will support and accelerate the existing IVECO strategy, with a focus on sustainable mobility and innovation in zero-emissions transport.
