Be.EV installs ultra-rapid charging at Tesco Express Blackburn

Must read

National EV charging network Be.EV has partnered with AAAZ Investments to install ultra-rapid charging bays at a site on Livesy Branch Road in Blackburn, which features a Tesco Express store (BB2 5AY).

The deal has seen Be.EV invest £223,000 to install two 150kW Kempower ultra-rapid charging bays at the site, which give drivers up to 80% of charge in just a 20-minute stop.

As well as benefiting local Blackburn residents, it will benefit EV drivers taking longer journeys where they need a quick charge as well, who generally pick locations near main roads. The site is perfectly located for these commuters, being only a 10-minute drive from the M65 which has an average daily traffic flow of over 69,000 vehicles.

The deal is set to provide significant financial benefit to AAAZ Investments, with ultra-rapid EV charging bays yielding an extra £4,000 of rental income for landlords at these high-traffic locations. It also leads to an increase in interest from companies looking to lease from these sites, with one multi-tenant business park reporting a 20% rise in leasing inquiries after installing EV chargers.

This is the latest step to make sure Lancashire is prepared for the EV revolution, with the council estimating that the country will need about 6,6645 chargepoints for an estimated 240,000 EVs on Lancashire’s roads by 2030. Ultra-rapid charging that residents can incorporate into their daily lifestyles will become increasingly popular as these numbers continue to grow.

This deal comes in the wake of a huge few weeks for the EV sector, with the Government announcing new subsidies of up to £3,250 for the purchase of new electric cars. This news is set to significantly increase the rate of adoption for EVs and boost the financial benefits to AAAZ Investments.

Be.EV brings to AAAZ Investments a membership base of 61,000+ loyal customers which is increasingly important as competition for driver loyalty will increase when more landowners and retail parks introduce electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO of Be.EV, commented: “We’re very happy that AAAZ Investments have put their trust in us to deliver this solution at this site on Livesey Branch Road.

“As the EV transition continues to build momentum, asset managers with shops will need to incorporate solutions that fit shoppers’ lifestyles if they want people to visit their stores, and ultra-rapid charging is the way to do this.”

A spokesperson from AAAZ Investments, commented: “EV charging has become much more of a priority for us as more EVs hit the road, so it’s important to us to get EV charging at our sites before they become the most common vehicle on the road.

“It was important for us to work with an experienced partner who could advise us on getting the right chargers and make everything as simple as possible, which is exactly what Be.EV has done. This new site will be a welcome addition for local residents and drivers on longer journeys.”
