Trevor Pye Transport has commemorated its 40th year in operation with the acquisition of a meticulously presented Volvo FH Aero 540 6×2 tractor unit.
The Shropshire-based company will deploy this new addition for temperature-controlled distribution as well as general haulage across the United Kingdom, transporting goods ranging from refrigerated food and fruit to groceries and seeds.
Trevor Pye Transport has marked its 40th year in business with the delivery of a new Volvo FH Aero 6×2 tractor unit.
Founded over forty years ago by Trevor and Margaret Pye with a single Volvo F7 vehicle, the company has maintained a longstanding relationship with the Swedish manufacturer. “Volvo has been our preferred supplier since inception. Although our fleet includes other brands, Volvo vehicles have consistently formed the majority,” notes Trevor. “We retain our vehicles for extended periods due to their reliability and durability. Our 30th anniversary was marked with a Volvo FH still in active service, and we anticipate comparable performance from this latest model.”
Supplied by Jack Hulse, Fleet Solutions Manager at Hartshorne Group, the FH Aero features Volvo’s D13K Euro-6 engine delivering 540 hp and a maximum torque of 2,600 Nm between 1,000 and 1,450 rpm, contributing to enhanced driveability, efficiency, and performance. The engine is paired with a 12-speed I-Shift transmission, ensuring swift gear changes and smooth acceleration.
The FH Aero’s streamlined design showcases Trevor Pye Transport’s red, white, and blue livery with hand-painted signwriting to mark the anniversary. Its distinguished appearance is further enhanced with an additional lightbar and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels.
Inside the Globetrotter cab, the vehicle offers a full leather interior, electronic air conditioning with carbon filter, sun, mist and air quality sensors, an adjustable steering wheel with neck-tilt, microwave oven, and fridge/freezer, among other amenities.
Driving performance benefits from Volvo’s I-See predictive cruise control, which optimises speed, gear shifts, and coasting according to topography, curves, roundabouts, and speed limits, thereby enhancing fuel efficiency. Safety is strengthened by Side Collision Avoidance Support, employing radar sensors to detect pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles on both sides of the truck.
“The FH Aero replaces a vehicle from another manufacturer, and feedback from the driver has been entirely positive,” adds Trevor.
Established in 1984 and headquartered in Wem, Trevor Pye Transport is a family-owned enterprise. Initially focused on cheese collection and distribution, the business has diversified its services and now transports a wide range of goods nationwide.
