Lineas can expand its activities in the port of Antwerp

Must read

A few days after obtaining a loan of 61 million euros from the federal participation and investment company, railway operator Lineas announces that it has won four plots in the context of the Railport tender in the port of Antwerp.

Since January 1, 2024, the port of Antwerp-Brugge has assigned certain port zones to a single operator, with the aim of bundling the streams and improving both the quality and the efficiency of the first and final kilometers. This plan is managed by Railport, a joint initiative of the port of Antwerp-Brugge, the Society Left Banker, Alfaport Voka and Essenscia.

Lineas had already brought in zones 1 (canal docks) and 2 (outdoor chimney) at the first tender. The four other zones that the Belgian company has won are all on the right bank of the Scheldt. They were operated by Railtraxx and DB Cargo, among others. Lineas, on the other hand, has not received a concession on the left bank.

“This important victory reinforces the presence of Lineas in one of the most important logistics hubs in Europe and again confirms its essential role in connecting Belgian and European industry with sustainable track freight solutions. From the start our team has carefully tailored participation in the tender to our general strategy,” said Ben Nagels, Sales Manager at Linas. “We have identified the areas where our presence was essential, both to strengthen our existing network and to offer our customers a constant and high -quality service. It is encouraging to see that this approach has produced concrete results.”
