Michelin North America has notified tire dealers that American Tire Distributors (ATD) will no longer serve as an authorized distributor for its brands, starting July 1. The Michelin ATD distribution change affects a range of products, including passenger, light truck, and commercial lines under the Michelin, BFGoodrich, and Uniroyal names, as well as Camso and Tweel offerings.
Dealers who source Michelin products from ATD will lose access to benefits tied to the company’s Alliance Associate Dealer program.
Goodyear ATD Distribution Change
Earlier this month, Goodyear removed ATD as an authorized distributor for its Cooper and Mastercraft brands. Both Michelin and Goodyear signaled a shift in manufacturer-distributor relationships, which could change how tire dealers source major product lines heading into the second half of the year.
ATD Leadership Shifts After Strategic Sale
In March, ATD completed the sale of substantially all its assets to new ownership. The company will continue to operate under the ATD name and says it plans to refocus on core tire distribution with a renewed commitment to its national network.
At that time, ATD appointed Ira Silver as President and CEO. Sean Franciscus joined as EVP and COO, and Keith Calcagno took on the role of EVP and Chief Sales Officer. The leadership team plans to rebuild inventory, enhance service, and re-establish dealer confidence.
Bankruptcy Restructuring Preceded Transition
This transition follows ATD’s second voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing since 2018. The company entered a court-supervised asset purchase agreement process last fall. The Michelin ATD distribution change comes just months after these major structural shifts within the company.
