AI-Powered Fleet Safety Cuts Accidents by 54% for Midland Tyre

Midland Tyre Services reported improved safety across its fleet by adopting AI-powered fleet safety solutions from Samsara. With telematics, GPS tracking and dual-facing AI dash cams, the company gained visibility into driver behavior and cut accidents by 54% over two years, it said.

Reducing Breakdowns and Boosting Response Time with AI-Powered Fleet Safety

The company provides new tires to some of Ireland’s largest businesses and responds to more than 8,000 breakdowns each year. After experiencing high accident rates and insurance costs, Midland said it adopted Samsara’s technology to improve safety and driver behavior in its round-the-clock fleet.

By using Samsara’s Connected Operations platform, Midland reduced fleet management time by 50% and shortened breakdown response time by 20 minutes per call. These changes saved the company 2,333 hours—or 97 days—annually, it said.

Improving Driver Behavior and Insurance Premiums

Midland also launched safety coaching programs, which helped its drivers achieve an average safety score of 96%. That score places drivers in the “elite” bracket, defined as 90 or higher. Managers used the Samsara platform to spot risky driving behaviors and exonerate drivers in cases where they weren’t at fault. These actions contributed to the accident reduction and helped renegotiate insurance premiums.

“Samsara gives us a powerful pair of eyes across our entire fleet. This helps us resolve issues and respond to callouts much faster,” said Chris Parle, commercial director at Midland Tyre Services. “We can share tracking data through dispatch links so our customers and technicians have a clear view of the nearest vehicle responding. It’s great for transparency and having complete visibility over our drivers is a massive benefit.”
