Symbolic robbery of K+N warehouse with contraceptives

Must read

A Kuehne+Nagel warehouse in Geel, where a large stock of contraceptives is stored, was symbolically raided yesterday by members of Amnesty International and Doctors of the World. Destruction threatens this multimillion-dollar supply of condoms, birth control pills and HIV medication. “Prevent the destruction of these medicines and send them to the countries that need them,” it said.

$12 million worth of contraceptives purchased by the US government and intended for developing countries await destruction due to the Trump administration’s closure of the US development agency USAID. The K+N warehouse in Geel contains millions of condoms, contraceptives and 50,000 bottles of HIV medication.

USAID and the US government cannot or will not release the material for free. It was also not possible to find buyers, so destruction may follow. NGOs, such as Amnesty International and Doctors of the World, are campaigning for the release of this stock.
