Bpost has brought together its distribution activities in the Charleroi region in a new distribution center. The teams from Charleroi, Jumet, Gilly and Courcelles were brought together in the new DC. The site, which has been operational since September, replaces several older locations and should improve both the efficiency of the logistics processes and the working conditions for employees.
The building has a total area of 6,350 m² and is equipped with five loading docks for trucks, 488 parking spaces and 100 charging points for electric vehicles. In addition, the site has a spacious covered loading zone, a laundry room and optimized logistics areas for the preparation of the rounds.
The distribution center was designed according to high environmental standards and operates completely without fossil fuels. Heating and cooling are done via heat pumps, while solar panels ensure the production of our own electricity. The building also has a green roof, automatically controlled LED lighting and systems for the recovery and infiltration of rainwater.
In addition to the infrastructure, the local fleet was also further electrified. About 75% of vehicles are now electric. The new infrastructure also forms the base for local postal workers. In the city center of Charleroi they make their rounds with electric vans or cargo bikes.
