UTAC Ivalo’s vision of the future of winter tyre testing

Must read

After the inauguration of the new Purple Snow Ivalo Center, Nexen gave our publishing group the opportunity to visit the indoor test centre of UTAC, partner of the newly opened test track. Guiding us were Susan Vuoriaro, director of CCTS (Cold Climate Testing Services at UTAC Ivalo) and Markus Hilli, director of Operations at UTAC Ivalo. In Ivalo, in the heart of Finnish Lapland, UTAC operates the world’s first facility for indoor winter testing – an ecosystem where snow is stored starting from the beginning of the year, to guarantee development and benchmarking sessions 365 days a year, with laboratory-grade repeatability. While outside the late-spring sun begins to warm Lapland’s tracks, inside the UTAC facility winter has just begun again.
