The first two electric trucks that have been put into use in Wallonia are operated by Dachser Belgium: two Mercedes eActros 600 tractors that take care of daily customer collections during the day and operate regular international lines to Rotterdam and Paris at night.
By combining day and night rounds, Dachser optimizes the use of electric trucks and ensures efficient operation. In Belgium, the German logistics service provider uses years of experience with electric trucks in other European countries, as Tom Verheyen, Country Manager European Logistics, explains: “By intensively deploying the vehicles with two drivers, Dachser not only aims for maximum COâ‚‚ reduction, but also wants to learn concrete operational and economic lessons for long-distance applications. Initially, the emphasis is on data analysis to optimize charging management, driving style and energy consumption.” To charge the two eActros vehicles, Dachser has expanded the available electrical capacity at the locations in Mouscron and Willebroek.
Both vehicles were purchased from dealer Ghistelinck. “In addition to transparent guidance during the purchasing process, the eConsulting service from Mercedes-Benz Trucks has also played a central role in Dachser Belgium’s electrification strategy. This service offers full support in the transition to e-mobility, ranging from advice on charging infrastructure and network capacity to integration into existing business processes and operational management solutions,” says Daimler Truck BeLux.
