We already knew that the Tesla Semi would be available in two versions: Standard Range and Long Range, with a range of 325 and 500 miles (523 and 805 kilometers) respectively. The empty weight of these two versions is 9070 and 10,400 kg. Tesla announces an average consumption of 1.06 kWh/km, which is fully in line with what traditional manufacturers are now offering (at least in Europe). The other major advantage of the Semi is its very high loading capacity, but here too, European manufacturers are switching or will switch to the MCS standard.
However, the prices announced by Elon Musk are staggering: $150,000 for the Standard Range version and $180,000 for the Long Range, 125,000 and 150,000 euros respectively. These figures are more than twice as low as those of the competition in the US and would be the same in Europe if the Tesla Semi were imported there. Even the Chinese Windrose electric truck costs about 250,000 euros. So you might wonder if Elon Musk is bragging again… Let’s not forget that the Semi was originally promised for… 2017.
