Registrations of light commercial vehicles and trucks were particularly low in January 2026 in Belgium. This is evident from the figures from Febiac, which now hopes for a ‘salon effect’ in the coming weeks for light commercial vehicles.
The figures are striking: -11.7% for light commercial vehicles, -19.3% for heavy trucks over 16 tons and -50.92% for trucks under 16 tons. As for light commercial vehicles, Febiac puts forward a technical argument to explain this decline: the entry into force on January 1, 2026 of the Euro 6e-bis standard, which penalizes plug-in hybrids through a new, stricter method for calculating CO2 emissions. This would result in a large number of these vehicles being registered in December 2025.
This statement does not apply to heavy trucks. However, in contrast to this negative balance, the number of semi-trailer registrations has increased by 18.5%. The road transport sector is therefore sending conflicting signals for the time being.
